The book ends with a HEA for the featured couple but events ready to unfold for Reme's story. There are breadcrumbs dropped for future books in series, esp setting things up for Reme's book next. Nino, Reme and Fabiano from book 1 are hilarious together. This could have made the book very dark but although it deals with a woman damaged from her experience it also has some really funny parts. There may be triggers for some as she was raped when she was 13. Her father was a traitor and her aunt and uncle did not show her affection, but tolerated her. Nino is a bit like Luca, he is analytical in the way he looks and reacts to things as he says he is incapable of feeling emotion. It's best to read the previous book in the series and even the 'Born in Blood Mafia Chronicles' series if possible as previous couples feature and the reason for the arranged marriage for a peace treaty are mentioned in this book as well as previous storylines. It would've been perfect if perhaps we had a little more insight into Nino's actions towards the latter parts of the book - but I also understand that maybe it was deliberate so as to depict that Nino himself was clueless as to what to make of the emotions he was experiencing. The dynamic between the brothers was really great.
The secondary characters were also really great, especially Adamo- he was adorable. The best part about reading this was that unlike most other books, we were not once (let alone repeatedly) told that Kiara and Nino were "meant to be", yet it was written in a way that as a reader, I myself felt like it was all destined- meant to be. This whole story was love coupled with peace and that's something not easily found in most books. Nino and Kiara felt like they were made for each other, his patience his calm was exactly what Kiara needed IMO, Kiara was someone who could appreciate and love Nino for who he was without needing him to change. This whole book was like that, in my opinion, a beautiful love story that doesn't need unnecessary drama or grand gestures to leave its mark on the reader.
Nino is described as the calm, the epitome of control. But in the next moment, I also realized that the epilogue that I wished for had been embedded in the story from the very beginning - in Nino's consideration for Kiara, in his changing behavior- increasing tenderness and affection.
When I finished the book, for a moment it felt like the ending was too abrupt what with the book ending just as Nino finally declares his love, like perhaps an epilogue, was required.
